Embrace Mainframe to Azure Migration with Advanced

by Rob Anderson, Vice President of Marketing and Product for Application Modernization

When Microsoft debuted MS-DOS in 1981, the mainframe was settling into its third decade on the scene. Forty-two years later, Microsoft has evolved into a global powerhouse that is all but unrecognizable. In contrast, the mainframe looks and feels a lot like its early 80s predecessors. Many would argue the unwavering identity of big iron is a strength, but most feel a growing pain emanating from the widening distance between modern application development, technological demands, and the mainframe.

Transitioning from the mainframe to Microsoft Azure has become a compelling value proposition, providing organizations with advantages in cost, flexibility, and application maintenance and development. According to the 2021 Mainframe Modernization Business Barometer Report - the second of its kind from Advanced - 78% of respondents have started at least one modernization initiative as a result of the pandemic. Of those, 83% are looking to Cloud environments such as Microsoft Azure as their preferred modernization targets.

While the goal of modernization is clear, the path to success can be costly, time consuming, and risky without the proper tooling and expertise to guide you. Advanced has been a Microsoft Gold Partner many years with a broad Microsoft practice, covering not only Mainframe Migrations to Azure but also Microsoft projects delivering solutions to clients for Modern Workplace/Office 365, Dynamics CRM, PowerBI and SharePoint, as well as Managed Azure services. Together, we bring intelligent modernization to organizations wanting to take advantage of all that Azure has to offer including mainframe-class technologies, a wide variety of development platforms, hybrid flexibility, and the ability to innovate.

Be sure to join modernization experts from Advanced and Microsoft for a virtual roundtable discussion tomorrow; focused on the importance of careful vendor selection and best practices when migrating legacy workloads to Azure. More details here.
