CASE STUDY

U.S. Department of Energy - Savannah River Site

The U.S. Department of Energy Savannah River Operations Office (DOE-SR) is an industrial complex in the US State of South Carolina responsible for the environmental management of nuclear weapons material disposal.

A key piece of the federally mandated security procedure implemented at this facility is the visitor tracking system. This system was housed on a mainframe running Natural application code and an Adabas database. We were able to move the Natural applications to a Windows environment using our Application Transparency Platform (ATP) rehosting product, migrate the Adabas database and data to a relational model, and implement the results on DOE-SR hardware, enabling the DOE-SR business to perform acceptance testing within five months.

This case study covers:

  • The business case driving USDOE's decision to modernize
  • The assessment process
  • Database and data migration
  • Natural rehosting with ATP
  • THE US-DOE's success story
